Short description BIM 2023-10 -
Provision of strategic services to evolve and deploy a strategy for the processing and wild catch sector Detailed description BIM wishes to invite tenders for the provision of services to evolve and deploy a strategy for the wild catch and processing sector.
The primary purpose of this tender is to ensure that BIM’s activities in support of the development of these sectors is carried out in an efficient and co-ordinated manner ensuring that the impact of activities is maximised.
Background
The Irish wild catch seafood sector (made up of inter alia Demersal, Pelagic, and Inshore segments) and processing of seafood industry is a diverse and fragmented sector. Various strategic initiatives have been completed to seek to bring some direction to the activities undertaken by and for the sector to survive and thrive, amongst which BIM have developed strategies for the Demersal sector, the Pelagic sector, and the Inshore sector.
In line with BIM’s commitment to lead the sector growth and development strategy, BIM is now seeking to complete a review of these sub-sector strategies to ensure demonstrable integration and coherence.
Whereas the sectors are diverse and fragmented, and their needs can differ somewhat there are also many areas of common concern and common opportunity that the sectors are dealing with. In addition, participants along the supply chain, in some cases do not operate with just one of these species types.
Due to the fragmented and disjointed nature of the sector, the sector themselves do not have the frameworks, skills, and often the time or desire to arrive at this coordinated approach. This project will seek to provide an integrated and united approach to these common concerns and opportunities and also seek to provide unique approaches to distinct issues of sufficient impact within distinct sectors.
