Met Éireann, the National Meteorological Service of Ireland, is planning to issue a Request for Tenders for the replacement of its satellite data reception and handling system. Detailed description Met Éireann, the National Meteorological Service of Ireland, is planning to issue a Request for Tenders for the replacement of its satellite data reception and handling system. Met Éireann currently receives satellite meteorology data and products using an antenna-based satellite reception system at its headquarters in Dublin. The data is received from the EUMETCast Satellite data dissemination service from EUMETSAT. The primary aim of the procurement is to obtain a system capable of handling the substantial increases in data rates from next-generation weather satellites expected over the next 10 years, with the first major increase expected in Q4 2023. Met Éireann also looks to increase redundancy in its satellite data supply by additionally establishing connections to the EUMETCast Terrestrial service at both its headquarters and a second data centre.
The supplier of the new satellite system would be required to deliver the following:
-Provide consultation on the required hardware and software upgrades;
-Provide the components of the new system, including two antenna dishes, DVB units, and reception and processing servers;
-Perform the removal of the old antenna-based system and installation of the new system at Met Éireann headquarters in Glasnevin, Dublin;
-Establish connection to EUMETCast Terrestrial at Met Éireann Headquarters and its second data centre.
-Provide and install the required software for the handling of satellite data on the reception and processing servers;
-Prepare, test and commission the system to receive and process data from both EUMETCast dissemination services;
-Provide update and maintenance service options for the new system once operational.
With an increase in satellite data rates expected by Q4 2023, the capacity of the supplier to perform the replacement of the reception and handling system within a short time frame will be an important element.
